Bring home the soldiers

My Daddy came home today.
He had to fight with guns
But now he’s left us, gone away
I love him tons.
He lost in a fight
He was brave
It was all over in one night.
To this country he is no longer a slave.
Mother says we must enjoy our Life.
She cries.
The sadness stabs like a knife.
But in our minds he still survives
It’s sad but I’m not alone.
Lots of people want to bring the soldiers home.

Malalai Joya has one of the hardest jobs: She’s a MP in Afghanistan, but on top of that she does something truly amazing, she fights for the rights of Afghan women. Every day brings new threats and normal life is impossible for Malalai and her husband, Though she cannot speak of him for his own safety whoever he is he must be patient - the couple move from safety house to safety house because Malalai's oppositions are always one step behind. She can't stay in the same house twice because it is too dangerous. Threats are yelled, most along the lines of "I will kill you" Malalai is numbed to the threats. But why does this happen?

As I've said she is a MP in Afghanistan but there is just one problem - she is the ONLY FEMALE MP in Afghanistan- she fights for the rights of Afghan women. Threats of Death don't scare her if anything they make her more determined and strong. she speaks the sad truth when she says:

“Women are scared to leave the house without a burka with fear of acid being poured in their face.”

In 2005 Malalai got voted to parliment but didn't stay there long as she was banned from parliment for saying:
“Afghanistan is in the hands of RAPISTS, Extreamists and MURDERERS”
but she continues to campaign and plans to till death.
“One day they will kill me but they cannot silence the truth! Education for women is not like a bunch of flowers a gift that eventually wilts, It's a right”

She is a brave Lady and a role model to women everywhere. Women in Afghanistan are treated badly and have no authority whats so ever. Now it's out -the truth can not be silenced.

What is the world coming to?

I am so shocked at some of these figures:
83,136,465,247 is the amount of US dollars spent on illegal drugs. This number rises at least seven times a SECOND. This is disgraceful when 1,022,792,633 people are dangerously underweight due to malnutrition (Figure rises every 3 seconds) and 24,644 of these people have died today (17th March up to 8:45pm) through lack of food. Most of these deaths are in 3rd world countries.
This is awful to think that when people are starving in the world then so much has also been spent on illegal drugs. 1,091,183,879 tons of foods have been produced this year so why don’t we get an amount of it to where it is truly needed?
These depressing figures are worrying and the environment doesn’t escape either.
There are only 15,603 days left until the world runs out of oil. Oil is a fossil fuel and fossil fuels are non renewable. Gas has a slightly brighter future with 61,029 days left -but compared to the healthy 152,200 days until the end of coal - this is not a particularly good figure either.
And sometimes it's too much to ask to be healthy...
This year 1,579,868 deaths have been caused by cancer :(
This affects almost every persons family that I've spoken to.
In the third world this year 131,119 mothers to be die in labour and double this figure abort because of the risk. There have been 2,294,652 deaths in children under five. Luckily the UK has good child mortality rates but some countries aren't as lucky. The Millennium Development goals fit round some of these issues very well.
  • Goal 1: Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger
  • Goal 2: Achieve universal primary education
  • Goal 3: Promote gender equality and empower women
  • Goal 4: Reduce child mortality
  • Goal 5: Improve maternal health
  • Goal 6: Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases
  • Goal 7: Ensure environmental sustainability
  • Goal 8: Develop a Global Partnership for Development

We have 90 Years to achieve all this! Shouldn't we get started? Please comment on any of these issues . . .
